In 2004 Stone County Emergency Management was awarded grant funds through the Department of Homeland Security. With these funds along with the help and support of local businesses and county government, our agency was able to acquire a state of the art communications trailer which will be utilized in the event of communications failure in the county along with having the ability to be used as a mobile command post for Fire, Law Enforcement, and other public service disciplines as needed.

This is a tremendous step forward for our agency and the area it serves. With this new acquisition, we are now able to talk to all area emergency service providers as well as we have high speed internet services allowing us to gain up to the minute weather radar imagining and voice over internet protocol (VoIP) telephone communications through satellites in the event a disaster were to take out communication towers and land lines.

In addition, Stone County Emergency Services (E-911) has equipped the trailer with backup supplies in the event they communication center were to be destroyed, and they were required to relocate to continue to serve the community and make sure all calls for 911 continue to be answered and emergency vehicles are dispatched.

Further inquiries should be directed to Tom Martin, Director of Stone County Emergency Management.
